And then, she started freelancing with several theatre groups in 2010. She made her first film appearance in the Tamil drama film, Kanchivaram in 2009 after she was spotted by director Priyadarshan during a performance with Koothu-P-Pattarai. But although the film won critical acclaim and was recognized by the National Film Awards, it did not earn a mainstream success and her performance went unnoticed. The following year, director M Saravanan had watched her perform in a theatre play entitled Saami Aatam, where she recited a 45-minute monologue and played three different characters.

The director got impressed and cast her in his debut film Engaeyum Eppothum in 2011. Vaidyanathan’s performance as Ananya’s sister was well received even though it was just a short one. From 2011 up to the present, she had donned several films including Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam (2013), Pisaasu (2014), and in Mani Ratnam’s Kadal (2013) and O Kadhal Kanmani (2015).
