Gollapudi Maruti Rao is a popular Telugu actor who was born in the year 1939 in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh. He is a great writer, actor, film editor and journalist and screenplay writer. He is also a wonderful director too. He has acted in 230 films and is popular for his character and comedy performance in Telugu cinema.

He was a good theatre artist, before he entered the cinema industry. He was also a member of the National Film Development Corporation. He was also appointed as one of the juries in the International Film Festival of India in the year 1996. He was honored with the Nandi Award, by the government of Andhra Pradesh, for his excellent service to the Telugu film industry. The best thing to be noted in his Nandi award is, Gollapudi Maruti Rao has received it for 6 times and this is a great record by a Telugu actor.

He bagged the awards as a best actor, comedy actor, best story writer, best screenplay writer, best dialogue writer and best character artist. He has worked with All India Radio for a few years and he is noted for his journalism too. The stage play Kallu by Gollapudi Maruti Rao was shot as a Telugu movie of the same name and bagged awards. He released his autobiography in India, Australia and also in the USA.
