According to Sonu Nigam, the “sur ka pakka” singer who was known to deliver consistently scintillating performances in the show could have been the winner if it was not up to the audience’s vote solely. He belonged to Hyderabad, Telangana, India and was born on 1 March 1986. He started the music training from his guru Sri NC Murthy at the age of just 3 and belongs to a family which has given 19 brilliant singers from which we can say that singing runs in his blood.

As he completed his seven years of age, he started learning Carnatic music from his guru. Being a truly dedicated singer, his daily routine started from 4:45 a.m, he performed pranayama and then did his daily riyaz from 6-9 a.m. Another thing about him that grabs our attention is that Karunya is a B.Tech graduate who used to enjoy the course and elaborates on how much he loved putting effort into creating the projects, from a water level indicator to a traffic light controller, to an appliance corrector along with his fellow mates which he referred to as his “gang”. The singer mentioned in an interview that, "I never thought of participating in a talent show on television until I saw the impact of Indian Idol. I used to be glued to my TV set and promised myself I would be a part of the show.” His singing was never affected by his South-Indian accent which by the way, he did not have.

He melodiously sang Punjabi and Rajasthani songs with all the feels which astonished actress ‘Tabu’ who also speaks the same language as his. He has performed songs like Ramta Jogi, Piya Re, Rind Posh (Kashmir Mission), Bunty Aur Bubli and Punjabi songs like Kawa Kawa Ajj Mera Ji Karda, Layi Vi Na Gayi etc, which shows the diversity of his singing talent. The uniqueness of his voice completely mesmerized the public, and this led him to reach to the final level. He was questioned on the importance of Indian Idol in building up his career, his answer was quite straight forward and logical. He said that although this show provided him huge exposure and knowledge of the industry, it can be counted as just the beginning and that he will keep on learning and singing for the love of his talent.

The show ended in the year 2006, ever since, he has sung “Aane Chaar Aane” for Rajkumar Hirani in the movie “ Lage Raho Munna Bhai Click to look into! >> Read More... ”, and “Jai Santoshi Maa” for Anu Malik. He then went back to his hometown Hyderabad and then sang for the supporters he had in Telugu Film Industry and recorded his first song there for Mani Sharma, in the film ‘Ashok’ casting JR. NTR. The Telugu film industry welcomed him with open arms, and he went on to record many songs there. He again became active in the year 2011 when he recorded Vayyarala jabilli, Solo, It's my lovestory etc. Everything was going on just fine with him singing songs in some movies and title songs of series until the song “Pillani Chooste” from Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu came out that made the South-Indian population crazy for his voice.

He also tried a little something in rock in a movie called “Sahasam”. You know when it happens that a movie sometimes unheard of has a superhit melodious song in it?? The same happened with a supposedly flop Bollywood film called “D For Dopidi” where he sang "Meher meher” that was a blockbuster and a real winner for him in North-Indian film industry. His work is diverse as he has worked for movies, serials, etc. He has hosted shows like a rip-off of Little Champs (Telugu based), Vijeta Voice Of Andhra. He has won numerous awards such as Best Debut Playback Singer followed by Best Playback Singer.

The list doesn’t end here, he was also been given "Young Rising Star of India” by the then Undersecretary-General of the UN, Shashi Tharoor Shashi Tharoor is an author, politician and also a >> Read More... in NYC. According to the prestigious organization IANT of Dallas, he is "One of the rare talents of Indian music Industry" .
