Viswanatha Satyanarayana was a great Telugu writer in the 20th century. He is known by the name of Kavi Saraat. He was born on 10th September 1885 in Nandamuru, Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh. He was born to Shobhanadri, a Brahmin landlord, and his wife, Parvathi. He was an apprentice of the Illustrious Telugu writer Chellapilla Venkata Sastry, from the Tirupati Venkata Sastry duo. He went to Veedhi Badi (street school), an informal school in the 19th and initial 20th centuries in India. He performed several traditional performances of street folk art forms like story-telling, extempore poetry, music, performance, and dance in different forms. He worked as the primary principal of Karimnagar Government College. His literary works include plays, novels, poetries, short stories, speeches, etc., covering various topics,po as history, sociology, psychology, social science, religion, philosophy, and more.

His works include twenty plays, thirty poems, ten critical estimates, two hundred Khand kavya, thirty-five short stories, sixty novels, three playlets, fifty radio plays, seventy essays, ten essays in English, ten works in Sanskrit, hundred introductions and forewords as well as radio talks. Some of his works like novels and poetries have been translated into Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Telugu, and Malayalam. All of his works cannot be listed here still some, of his novels include Swarganiki Nicchenalu, Cheliyali Katta, Pulula Satyagraham, Ganguly Prema Katha, Ha Ha Hu Hu, the name of a horse-faced demigod who does a mythical landing in London, Sarvari Nundi Sarvari Daka, and more. Some of the poetries written by him are Girikumaruni prema Geetaalu, Vishwanatha Madhyaakkaralu, Sri Kumarabhyudayamu, Sri Krishna Sangeetamu, and others.

Gupta Pasupatam, Nartanashala, Ashokavanamu, Shivaji – Roshanara and Talli leni Pilla are some plays written by him. He has also worked on some analyses of Kavya Parimalamu, Shakuntalamu yokka abhijnanata, Nannayyagari Prasanna katha kalitartha Yukti, and more. There are a lot of other works done by him. He has won several Awards. He was the first Telugu writer to receive the Jnanpith Award for his book Rajumjulyana Kalpavruksham. He received the Padma Bhushan from the Indian government. He has also been bestowed as the Andhra Pradesh government’s laureate. He has received quite a few other awards as well. He died on 18th October 1976.
