Aslam Irani was a well-known director with a filmmaking background in his family. He is recognized for his musical films that addressed a variety of social themes. He had a sibling named Akbar. Akbar Irani, his brother, was a well-known cinematographer who was married to celebrity Naghma. Naghma rose to notoriety thanks to Aslam Irani's hit "Hath Jori" (1964), but their relationship ended after Naghma divorced Akbar and married Habib. 

Aslam Irani was the assistant director for the pre-partition film, his rookie project, named "Rustam-o-Sohrab." After the ill-received films such as "Tarrap" (1953), "Pawwan" (1956), and "Mazloom" (1959), he regained his reputation with the Punjabi film "Bacha Jamoora" (1959). His popularity skyrocketed after the release of "Behrupia" (1960).
