Southern film industry has always been a cut above their Bollywood contemporaries in story and technical aspects (it’s another issue that of late Bollywood films are also doing good work behind the scenes). But, there are also good south Indian films which failed at the box office, in spite of having good script, performances, etc. Here is a list of 8 Southern films which didn’t do good business in spite of having the above-mentioned aspects.

With such a beautiful script one is left to wonder why the film bombed at the box office.

2. Mahanadhi (Tamil)

You will surely feel depressed to the core after watching this film and maybe that’s the reason this film bombed at the box office. But reality always bites and Kamal would have wanted to elevate the taste of the audience. A person faces many problems and how he comes out victorious is the story. 3. Aaha (Tamil)

He is always scolded by his father for being a simpleton and his elder responsible brother is always applauded. But finally it is Rajiv, who steals the hearts of the entire family. Though the film had great performances and good entertainment aspects, it failed at the box office.

This film delves on atheism, communalism and other issues. The concept “Love is God” is also touched in this film. Kamal Haasan giving a good performance is nothing surprising, but the man of the moment was Madhavan. Though the film didn’t create ripples at box office, one solace is that it was planned to be re-released later. What happened to the idea?

5. Amma Cheppindi (Telugu)

This film deals with a mentally challenged Shrawanand and his lovely mother. How Shrawanand reciprocates his mother’s love, in spite of his mental drawback, forms the story. Shrawanand and Suhasini have done exceptionally well, but the film failed to create ripples at box office.

6. Mithunam (Malayalam)

This is a Priyadarshan film and deals with ' Mohanlal Mohan Lal is the Super Star of the Malayalam film >> Read More... ' hurdles faced in starting a biscuit factory, braving all corruptions and family issues. The movie received good appreciation, but was a failure at box office.

7. Rudraveena (Telugu)

8. Ulidavaru Kandante (Kannada)

Here, several people perceive a same happening, but in different angles. It had good performance by the lead actors and is indeed a milestone in Kannada cinema.
