It is heard that PMK member SLT Sundaresan, a former Panchayat leader of Puliyankannu Panchayat in Ranipet, Vellore District, has been suffering from Swine Flu. He has been getting the treatment for the flu at a private hospital in Chennai. A person in the area died out of swine flu, a month back. So, the people are in a panic. It is heard that a lot of diseases spread fast in this area due to the chemical wastes released by the chemical factories in Ranipet. The chemical wastes are drained to Kottai Thoppu lake, Thandalam lake, Pulinkannu lake, Vanampadi lake and Puliyanthangal lake. As the wastes are drained in the lakes, the water in the lakes is being wasted and the chemical waste creates a lot of health issues. People in the area are suffering from skin diseases and breathing troubles due to the unrefined chemical wastes. The harmful chemical wastes have turned a huge trouble creator for the ground water too. Although the complaints have been launched by the public to the respective authorities, essential steps are not taken so far. It is the duty of the government to direct the officers to solve the issue! Will they seal the factories that threaten the life of the people?
