Commonwealth Games are going in Gold Coast in Australia. India’s first medal comes on Day 1 from Weightlifting. Gururaja grabbed the silver medal in the 56 kg category. Guru lifted 111 kg in the snatch and his third attempt with 138 Kg. The 28-year-old guy lifted a total of 249 kg and grabbed the second place. This is his highest achievement, so far. Gururaja is from a simple family and his father is a truck driver in Karnataka. Congrats Guru! Third place goes to Chathuranga Lakmal, who is just a Kg short of Gururaja. Muhammad Izhar Ahmad from Malaysia won the gold with 261 Kg and it is a Commonwealth record.
