Why Did TN Reject Kerala’s Offer?

Kerala government had voluntarily offered 20 lakh litres of water to Chennai, as the city had been facing severe water scarcity. But, the Tamilnadu government had denied getting from them. Why did they do so? This is not a rumor and the Kerala CM posted on his Official Facebook page. He posted, “രൂക്ഷമായ കുടിവെള്ളക്ഷാമം അനുഭവിക്കുന്ന തമിഴ്നാടിന് കുടിവെള്ളം ട്രെയിന്‍മാര്‍ഗം എത്തിച്ചുനല്‍കാന്‍ സംസ്ഥാന സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ സന്നദ്ധതയറിയിച്ചു.

തമിഴ്നാട് മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയുടെ ഓഫീസുമായി ഇക്കാര്യം അറിയിച്ച് നമ്മുടെ ഓഫീസ് ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടെങ്കിലും ഇപ്പോള്‍ ആവശ്യമില്ലെന്ന മറുപടിയാണ് ലഭിച്ചത്. തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തുനിന്ന് ചെന്നൈയിലേക്ക് ട്രെയിന്‍മാര്‍ഗം 20 ലക്ഷം ലിറ്റര്‍ കുടിവെള്ളം എത്തിക്കാനായിരുന്നു സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ ശ്രമിച്ചത്. ചെന്നൈയിലെ പ്രധാന ജലാശയങ്ങളൊക്കെ വറ്റിവരണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ്. കാര്‍ഷികമേഖലയെ വരള്‍ച്ച കാര്യമായി ബാധിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഈ സാഹചര്യത്തിലായിരുന്നു കേരള സര്‍ക്കാരിന്‍റെ സഹായ വാഗ്ദാനം.”

The Kerala CM stated that as the water bodies in Chennai had dried up and the agriculture is also affected, Kerala decided to support Tamilnadu. But, the Tamilnadu CM’s office replied that it was not necessary.
