He went to Hefner Middle School and later studied at Putnam City North High School. Marsden wanted to study broadcast journalism, unlike his parent's profession. Following that he was cast in another television series Ally McBeal, in which he played an important character during the first half of the fifth season. In this series, he made his debut as a singer. By the end of that series, he appeared in the Canadian television series Boogies Diner. Although it aired for only one season, he was becoming famous among the youngsters.
