After giving back-to-back hits (Mangal Pandey: The Rising, Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na) Aamir Khan has become a brand in himself. There is a huge amount of expectation when people go to the theatre to watch an Aamir Khan film.

Ghajini was the most awaited movie of the year not only because ofAamir Khan but also because it’s Tamil version and dubbed Telugu version were mega blockbusters.

Plot

The story is about, Sanjay Singhania (Aamir), an industrialist and owner of Air Voice (a cellular phone company), who falls in love with Kalpana (Asin), a struggling model and how he seeks revenge from the killer (Ghajini) who violently murdered his beloved girl. Since Sanjay had been hit on the head with an iron rod, he suffers from acute short-term memory loss(can remember things only for 15minutes). Though Sanjay’s s position complicate the things the horror of his past and the obsession to trace and finish off his beloved’s killer ultimately helps him to kill GHAJINI.

Analysis

Ghajini is a simple and straightforward revenge story where love forms the basis of the revenge that the protagonist seeks. Though there are few similarities GHAJINI is not MEMENTO.Director A.R. Murugadoss tells this one differently with many twist and turns. The movie starts off with the past, comes to present, goes back in time again and returns to the current time again. This is an interesting, breathless and exhilarating film where 3 hours will pass in the blink of an eye. Ghajini is one roller-coaster ride that thrills till the end.

Star Performance

Aamir Khan has given a knockout performance. You can’t take your eyes off the screen when he’s up there.Asin looks fabulous, and her happy-go-lucky girl acting was natural thus brilliant. Jiah Khan makes her presence felt, even though she has a sizeable role, as a medical student. Ghajini’s ( Pradeep Rawat) attire was of the 90s Bollywood villain, and his acting was perfect for a revenge movie.

What’s there?

  • Ghajini’s simple yet interesting story is its USP.
  • The screenplay is gripping with a twisted climax.
  • Action scenes are excellently choreographed.
  • The film's music is top-notch.
  • Ravi Chandran's cinematography is stunning.

What’s not there?

  • There are logical loopholes such as Sanjay Singhania is such a big industrialist and yet no one has ever seen him.
  • It seems that director has tried to take an easy way out by not detailing the scenes as there are scenes that leave many questions unanswered.

Verdict

In totality, Ghajini is commercial Hindi cinema at its best with, revenge, romance, action and thrill, with a nice touch of humour in it. A complete paisa vasool entertainer.
