Hindi Movie Review Island City - Cast & Crew

The writer/director of the critically appreciated genre-defying movie Island City, Ruchika Oberoi is a Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) former student. Unlike the young directors making it big in the Bollywood industry with big commercial successes, Ruchika is a late-bloomer but certainly not tilted toward the commercial cinema; at least, for the moment. Ruchika represents the middle-class woman, stepping onto the streets of Mumbai with a dream in her heart. She recalls living in the middle-class communities and says she enjoyed staying amidst of them and in a way they have helped her understand the metropolitan city much better.

Gissy Michael is a sound designer and recordist from Mumbai with over 20 years of work experience in the film industry. She started her career in the late '80s, although her debut project is unknown. One of her Earlier projects was in 2001- a Documentary called Jari Mari: Of Cloth and Other Stories, followed by Bombay Blush, a TV Documentary series in the same year.

Hemanti Sarkar is an Indian film editor who works in Hindi films and documentaries. She has worked in Bollywood movies like English Vinglish, M Cream, Airlift, and many others. Hemanti hails from Kolkata in West Bengal. She started a film editing course at the Film Institute of India in Pune, Maharashtra in 1993. Hemanti made her Bollywood debut as an assistant editor with the movie Pardes, written and directed by Subhash Ghai. The film hit the screens on 8th December 1997 and won three Filmfare Awards in 1998. She was also the assistant editor of Godmother in 1999. Hemanti made her debut as an independent film editor for the movie “Sur: The Melody Of Life,” written and directed by Tanuja Chandra. The film hit the screens on 2002 and was nominated for a Filmfare Award and two Screen Weekly Awards.

Vikramjit Roy is a Hindi executive producer. He is known for his work as a producer in The Lunchbox, a romantic-drama film released on 28 February 2014, directed by Ritesh Batra, written by Ritesh Batra and Vasan Bala, and starring Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He worked in Manjhi - the Mountain Man, a drama biography film released on 21 August 2015, directed by Ketan Mehta, written by Shahzad Ahmed, Mahendra Jakhar, and Ketan Mehta, and starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Abhinay Raj Singh, and Radhika Apte.

Sumit Kumar is an Indian director who has directed several Bollywood movies. Besides being an amazing director, Sumit has also worked as a producer, additional crew member, production manager, and soundtrack artist. Sumit started his career in 1999 as an assistant director in the movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. In 2001 he got a special thankful note for his work in the film The Warrior. In 2002 he was the chief assistant director of the film Desh Devi. In the same year, Sumit worked in the short film The Sheep Thief. In 2004 he worked as a post-production supervisor in the film, The King of Bollywood.

Sylvester Fonseca is a cinematographer from India. He was born on 13 March 1986 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He graduated from St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai, and after that, he did a course as a cinematographer at the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in 2013. His debut movie Island City(2015) was premiered at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival. The movie was released in India in September 2016 and was highly acclaimed by critics and audiences.

Niraj Gera is an Indian producer, sound engineer, sound designer, and sound editor working mainly in Bollywood Film Industry. He had worked in several hit films and is a well-known name as a crew member of Hindi movies. Niraj co-produced a film in 2018, Paaghadi, directed by Tapan Vyas. At the initial stage of his career, Niraj Gera had worked on a few documentaries, music videos, and shorts like Lakshmi and Me in 2007, Superman of Malegaon in 2008, and Shor - short video in 2008. In 2009, he worked on a TV series and documentary, Independent Lens as Sound Designer.

Boloy Kumar Doloi was born and brought up in Guwahati, Assam, India. He did his schooling at Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Guwahati. When he was just 18 years old, he moved to Mumbai to complete his diploma in Audio Engineering and Film Making. At the same time, he has been working in the industry. Currently, he works as a Sound Recording Mixer and Sound Engineer in the Indian Film Industry. He has worked in Documentaries and Biopics, etc., in different languages such as Hindi, English, Telegu, Bengali, and Marathi. He has been working in this field for more than 19 years. Now he is known to be a person who has mastered the art of mixing on Dolby Atmos. His first job in this field was at Vikrant Studio, and he is still working there. He worked at FutureWorks as a Sound Re-recording mixer and has also worked at Creative Sound Design. He has worked with great filmmakers such as Mira Nair, Shamim Sarif, S.S Rajamouli, and many more. Some of his great works are ‘Holiday: A soldier is never off Duty’ released in 2014, ‘Deep Inside’ in 2021, ‘Kaabil’ in 2017, ‘Haider’ in 2014, ‘Kaali Khuhi’ in 2020, ‘Dhadak’ in 2018 and a lot more. He is not active on social media.

Pranit Purao lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He did his higher education on computers and electronics at Somaiya Vidyavihar, a university in Mumbai. Currently, he is working as a Sound Engineering at a self-employed company known as Conscience VC. Earlier, he has worked as a Sound Engineer at AuralMayhem Studios and Final Track Studio. He has worked in famous and eminent short films, films, and TV Series. Some of them are- ‘Ready’ released in 2011, ‘Kabir Singh’ in 2019, ‘Jolly LLB 2’ in 2017, ‘Aspirants’ in 2021, ‘Barfi’ in 2012, ‘Mulk’ in 2018, ‘Bombay Talkies’ in 2013, ‘Aligarh’ in 2015, ‘Yeh Meri Family’ in 2018 and many more. He also has an interest in clicking photographs. He is not active on social media platforms. There is no information about his family and personal life.

Jayadev Tiruveaipati, born in Hyderabad, is an established Digital Colorist. He has worked in many famous and accepted movies. He made his own place in the industry. He got his early education from Atomic Energy Central School, Hyderabad. Later he graduated from one of the best university of the country, OSMANIA University, Hyderabad. He worked at various companies like Prasad Film Labs Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai for 5 years. He also worked at Pixion Century Communication Ltd. in 2012. He worked as a Digital Colorist for EFX, Prasad Corporation for 2 years. In Pixion Studios he worked on projects like ‘DHOL’, directed by Priya Darshan; ‘No Smoking’ directed by Anurag Kashyap; ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ directed by Abbas Tyrewala and ‘Dev D’ directed by Anurag Kashyap. In EFX, Prasad Corporation he worked as a digital colorist from 2005-2007.
