3. Barry John

Barry-John.jpg

Barry John can be considered to be the “Alchemist” of Indian Film Industry. He defied the objectives to make Shah Rukh Khan just to learn and become a professional actor. Instead he turned SRK to be “The King” of Indian Films. His prodigy SRK mentioned multiple times and in different interviews and newspaper columns that he is so thankful for his mentor’s effort to help him achieve his goals.

Barry John was born 1944 from Coventry, England, United Kingdom. He is a respected actor also aside from being a renowned-theatre director. He handled teaching lessons as an English language instructor before becoming the best in his field. He’s one of the founders of “Theatre Action Group (TAG)” that was established in the year 1973 after he migrated to India. He is also a faculty-member of “National School of Drama” from 1977 up to 1980. He also co-founded the “Theatre in Education Company” from 1989 up to 1992.

He appeared in the different films like “Shatranj Ke Khilari (Chess Players) in 1977”, an epic and critically-acclaimed movie “Gandhi” in 1982, Massey Sahib in 1985, Miss Beatty's Children in 1992, Shaheed Udham Singh in 2000, “Thanks Maa”, “Othello”, “The Great Indian Butterfly” and “Tere Bin Laden” in 2010, “Chittagong” in 2012, and last is “M Cream” released in 2014. In 1993, he received the title “Best Theatre Director” from Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

Barry John’s method in acting is a modified of creating the “Internal Character Build-Up.” This type or way of acting is that your acting comes from your heart in that sense you don’t have to fill a bucket of your tears rather using your internal emotions. This type of acting is quite difficult to achieve. Barry simplified this way of acting. He made a method where actor/actresses will use their body senses to make it make it easier. Using body senses will make your emotions flow thru your heart and all the next things that will happen will be a surprise and miracle as an act.
