Analysis
A girl is in trouble. She needs your help. As a chivalrous boy, the first thing you shall do is understand the mess she is in and then do the best you can. Right? But what if her problem lands you in a bigger mess?
‘Abbabba’ is a film that focuses on one such case. Based on a Malayalam comedy released in 2015, this film gives an innovative touch to the campus comedies we’re so often used to. Campus comedies have two extremes: they’re either very grand like ‘Student of the Year’ or something as gritty like ‘Ayutha Ezhuthu’ [which was later remade into ‘Yuva’]
However, ‘Abbabba’ is neither of the two. It is a simple, fun movie, with some surprise elements in store for the viewers. The screenplay takes some time to build the narrative. However, once it does, the road ahead is a complete roller coaster, especially in the second half. The credit for this goes to the two writers, Abhilash S Nair, and KL Rajasekar, who have given a good transformation to this Kannada adaptation of a Malayalam film.
The acting performances are also simply phenomenal. However, it is Amrutha Iyengar who stands out with her performance of Akhila. Even Likhith Shetty surprises many with his act of a lovelorn hostelier. The other character performances also do justice to their respective roles.

Verdict
‘Abbabba’ is a romantic comedy that none had much expectations from. However, writers Abhilash S Nair and KL Rajasekar deliver a surprisingly good script, with just the right dose of humor. The acting performances in this film are like the cherry on the icing.
