Plot

Sanoj is a social worker who runs the Akshaya Centre in Kalamberi village. However, his life takes a sharp turn when a local legend, Kalambasura, starts appearing in front of the villagers. What will Sanoj do now?

Star Performances

The casting of this film is on point. Nobody sticks out like a sore thumb. Siju Wilson and Nisha Sarang have done complete justice to their roles.

The humor in this movie is balanced, as well as genuine. Nothing looks forced or unnecessary.

Analysis

Superstition has been synonymous with rural culture in India. However, ‘Panchavalsara Padhathi’ has a different take on it.

While the movie has no direct connection with either ‘Peepli Live’ or ‘Unda’, it has taken some inspiration from the two in terms of blending the humor naturally with the surroundings. The story is all about a social worker, who sets out to find the truth behind a local legend.

PG Premlal and Sajeev Pazhoor have teamed up to give a simple, yet intriguing story. The entertainment quotient in this movie is more than average, and the audience feel connected towards the narrative. Even the visuals of this movie are anything but bland. The movie is made for every kind of audience, something rarely seen in most Indian movies these days.

Yes, there is nothing extraordinary, and in some places, the narrative turns out to be average. However, these flaws are minor, and do not interrupt the smooth flow of the story anywhere in between. The editing though, could have been a little better.

The acting in this movie is to the point. Full marks to the casting director for choosing the right people. Siju Wilson shines as the enthusiastic social worker Sanoj. Nisha Sarang does justice to her role as well. This is also the last movie of Harish Pengan as an actor, since he passed away recently. He has done a good job with his role, and so have the rest of the supporting cast.

What’s There

  • Good direction by PG Premlal
  • Simple but entertaining screenplay by Sajeev Pazhoor
  • Good acting by the lead pair of Siju Wilson and Nisha Sarang
  • Strong support from the supporting cast

What’s Not There

  • Minor issues with the pace
  • Not so impressive editing

Verdict

‘Panchavalsara Padhathi’ is nothing out of the blue. Yet, the simplistic narrative works, and the humor is absolutely genuine. The lead pair of Siju Wilson and Nisha Sarang work wonders, and so does the supporting cast. If you wish for something sweet and simple, this is the one movie for sure!
