Sidney Kimmel

Sidney Kimmel is a famous philanthropist and film producer. He was born and raised in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania in a Jewish family. His father was a cab driver. Sidney Kimmel dropped out from Temple University. He got married to Caroline Davis in 1999.

Kimmel founded Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (SKE) in 2004. In 2002, he stepped down as CEO of Jones and sold most of his shares for $2.2 billion. SKE produced more than 45 movies. He is also a part owner of the Miami Heats in professional NBA. Sidney Kimmel is the guy who jump-started the Philadelphia Orchestra's lagging development drive with a $12 million grant to help build a $140 million concert hall.

Kimmel founded Sidney Kimmel Foundation for cancer research in 1993. Johns Hopkins University received $150 million by Sidney Kimmel Foundation for Cancer Research as donation, which was used for cancer patients. Kimmel has also contributed $25 million for construction of the National Museum of American Jewish History. Kimmel aims at donating $1 billion throughout his life. New Constitution Center received a $5 million donation from Sidney Kimmel as a gift, and a theater beared his name. For his donations, Kimmel himself quoted, "I feel an obligation and a responsibility to give back. I feel lucky to be able to do it."

Sidney Kimmel received the Medal of Honor for Cancer Philanthropy from the American Cancer Society in 2006. He was also awarded with the American Cancer Society's Humanitarian Award in 1996. He got the Musser Award for Excellence in Leadership by Temple University in 2002. In filmography, he won and was nominated for many awards. Kimmel won the Christopher Awards for the movie, The Kite Runner, in 2008. He was also nominated for the Gotham Awards in 2008, for the movie, “New York Synecdoche”. Kimmel also won the Independent Spirit Awards in 2009 for the movie, “New York Synecdoche”. He was also ranked 655 in the richest man alive by Forbes. Nowadays, Mr. Kimmel and his wife, Caroline, reside in California and New York.
