Proficient director Sarvottam Badami has worked in various Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil films and is known to give his best. He was born in 1910 in Channapatna (Bangalore), and his dad was a revenue officer. Initially, he used to work as a garage mechanic, but later on, he worked as a projectionist at Select Picture House in Bangalore. But there was one thing in common: both were under Ambalal Patel. After some time, Sarvottam Badami also went to Mumbai to study automobile engineering, eventually, he got a chance to work for Ardeshir Irani, as a sound recordist in Alam Ara( (1931).

Later on, the proficient director got an opportunity to complete an incomplete movie named Harishchandra as the German director left it halfway. Because of his adroitness, this movie was a big hit. It opened a broad way for him to get more work, and he successfully established himself as a movie director when he signed a contract for three movies with Sagar Movietone, including two Telugu movies named Shakuntala and Rama Paduka Pattabhishekkam and one Tamil movie named Galava Rishi.

In the beginning, director Sarvottam Badami worked on South Indian movies only, but gradually he started working in the Hindi film industry as well. His first hit Hindi film was Chandrahasa (1933). Later on, he did approximately 30 Hindi films with Sagar Movietone. Some of his movies were novel adaptations. M. Munshi, Saratchandra, and Ramanlal Vasanthlal Desai wrote some of his movies. Apparently, in 1948, Sarvottam Badami established the Films Division and worked as chief producer.

Later on, he made multiple hit movies and documentaries, but he retired from the Film Division in 1952. Afterward, Deputy Prime Minister Vallabhbhai Patel asked Sarvottam Badami to assist him in setting up a newsreel and documentary section. Subsequently, he made various documentaries, including one about “Vinoba Bhave.” But right after retirement, he moved to Bangalore. Some of his work includes Grihalaxmi (1934), Bhagya Laxmi (1944), Dr. Madhurika (1935), Aap Ki Marzi (1939), Sajani (1940), Chingari (1940), Jeevan Lata (1936), Grama Kanya, Bambai Ki Sair (1941), Vengeance is Mine aka Ver Ni Vasulat (1935), Khilona (1942), Prarthana (1943), and Ramayani (1945). He passed away on October 18, 2005.
