Joyce was born in a Christian family and spoke Malayalam at her home. Her original name was Joyce Polycarp. In Mumbai, Joyce met Anil Arora, a Merchant Navy employee. She fell in love with Anil after they continued to meet each other on different occasions. Later, Joyce decided to marry Anil, a Hindu-Sikh who hailed from Fazlika, Punjab.

There were some cultural differences between their respective faiths, but the couple put them aside and got married in the early 70s’. She had worked at The Indian Express, one of the most-read newspapers in India. With Anil, Joyce had two daughters- Malaika and Amrita. While Malaika was born on 23rd October 1973, Amrita’s date of birth is 31st January 1981. But due to irreconcilable differences, Joyce decided to divorce Anil after a decade of togetherness. Despite the separation, Joyce & Anil remain good friends and attend family functions together without any hurdles. Joyce got the custody of her daughters. As Joyce is a devoted Christian, she wished her girls to embrace the Catholic faith just like their mother.

Since then, Joyce, Malaika, and Amrita have been attending many church-related celebrations. As a single mother, Joyce ensured that her daughters lived happily and allowed them to pursue their careers of interest. Both of her daughters, Malaika and Amrita, chose the film industry for the living. As far as Malaika is concerned, she was a VJ for MTV India, a music channel before she entered into the films. In movies, she is better known for her dance moves in a few item songs.

Whether it is “Chhaiya Chhaiya” from Dil Se or “Munni Badnaam” of Dabangg, Malaika carved a niche for herself as the “item girl” in the Bollywood. Being a Malayali by birth, Joyce Arora had been following the tradition. She celebrates the popular Kerala festivals with her family and cooks traditional food on that special occasion. Joyce is an excellent cook too. She spends her leisure time cooking traditional food and surprise her family. Besides cooking and posting the pictures on her social media pages, Joyce Arora shares the recipes with her followers. This home-chef’s recipes surprise the followers, as she doesn’t limit her recipes to particular food culture.

Right from South Indian and North Indian, her recipes vest to International food varieties. Recently, Joyce celebrated Onam with her family. Her daughters, Malaika Arora and Amrita Arora visited her and they had a great feast together. Onasadya, the special dish prepared during Onam, filled their dining table and their hearts, as the family met after several months.
