Prithvi Pankaj Shaw (born 9 November 1999) is an Indian professional cricketer. He currently plays for the Mumbai Indians in domestic cricket and for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He was part of the winning Indian team at the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. He was born into a Bihari family in Gaya, Bihar. Shaw's parents migrated from Gaya, Bihar, to Thane, Maharashtra, in search of work. Shaw, along with his father, was given a contract by AAP Entertainment in 2001, allowing them to move to Mumbai and continue Shaw's cricket education. Indian Oil sponsored him.

 

A right-handed opener, Shaw made his first international appearance on 4 October 2018 and made a century on his debut, becoming the youngest to achieve both feats. Shaw was the captain of Rizvi Springfield High School cricket team and the Mumbai under-16 team, and he played cricket for the Middle Income Group Cricket Club in Mumbai. He struck 546 in a Harris Shield elite division match in November 2013, the highest total in any organized form of cricket since 1901.

On 1 January 2017 Shaw made his first appearance for Mumbai in the semi-final of the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy, where he scored a century in the second innings and was named man of the match. He earned another distinction by scoring a century in his debut match of the Duleep Trophy and equaled the record held by Sachin Tendulkar Born in Dadar in Mumbai, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar i >> Read More... who had scored for the first time a century in his debut matches of both the Ranji Trophy and the Duleep Trophy. Shaw was named captain of the Indian squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. India won the tournament by eight wickets over Australia to win its fourth Under-19 World Cup.

As one of the five breakout stars in men's cricket in 2018, Shaw was named by the International Cricket Council (ICC). In July 2019, Prithvi Shaw was suspended by BCCI for doping violation until 15 November 2019. Shaw received a backdated 8-month ban on 30 July for a doping violation. It is common for cough syrups to contain this prohibited substance, which Shaw accidentally ingested. Shaw's urine sample was found to contain Terbutaline during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match on February 22, 2019, in Indore. In the WADA Forbidden List of Substances, terbutaline, a designated substance, is prohibited both in and out of competition.
