Sunil Chhetri

Sunil Chhetri is an Indian professional footballer, who was born on August 3rd, 1984. He plays as a winger or striker for the Indian Super League side Bengaluru FC. He is both the most senior and all-time top goal-scorer for the Indian national team. He scored 71 goals in 110 matches. He is the current captain of the Indian national team. Sunil was given the title of 'Asian Icon' by AFC on his 34th birthday. Sunil started his professional career at Mohun Bagan in 2002. He then went to JCT, where he scored 21 goals in just 48 games.

Sunil signed for the Kansas City Wizards of Major League in 2010, becoming the third player from India to go abroad. However, that contract in the United States did not go well, and soon he was back, playing in India's I-League where he played for Mohun Bagan and Chirag United before going back abroad.

This time, Sunil signed for the Sporting Clube de Portugal of the Primeir Liga where he played as the club's reserve side. Sunil was born on August 3rd, 1984 to KB Chhetri, an officer of the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers of the Indian Army, and Sushila in Sikanderabad, Telangana.

Sunil’s father played football for the Indian Army's team, and his mother with her twin sisters played for the Nepal women's national team. Sunil started football from a very young age and took part in various tournaments. On December 4th, 2017, Sunil married his long-time girlfriend, Sonam Bhattacharya. She is the daughter of the former Indian national football player and legend Subrata Bhattacharya.
