It was also stated that Rahul and Sonia didn’t want to choose the leader and left the choice to the party. When the working committee announced the names, Mallikarjun Kharge, Mukul Wasnik and Jyotiraditya Scindia for the Congress President, except a few people, none supported them. So, they have decided to go with Sonia for the Interim. Finally, Sonia accepted it. Earlier in May, when Rahul quit his post, Sonia was asked to take up the position, but she refused.
