Plot

The story is about Ritika and Mohit, a couple who live in Mumbai. They are also like any ordinary urban couple in India.

But, their life changes completely when they come across a strange creature (Nikhil Desai) in the forests of Mumbai. They leave their car in the forest and decide to go home by a cab. But, when they reach home, they get surprised to see that the creature had followed them to their home.

As the story proceeds, we get to know that Ritika is the one who majorly contributes to running the house, and Mohit is the one who is left at home with a lot of time and insecurities to deal with. But, after the arrival of this strange creature, Mohit gets new and exciting work to do. He starts training the creature in the way he has always fantasized his ideal wife would be. One night, when Mohit is drunk, he makes a ‘mistake’ and comes too close to the creature and gives him a peck. The very next morning, Mohit and Ritika see that the creature has turned into a younger version of Mohit, and they give him a name, Kabir (Chandrachoor Rai).

Now, the situation has become a bit complex. Ritika lives with her husband and his younger version, Kabir. Soon, Mohit starts feeling insecure because Ritika starts getting closer to him both physically and emotionally. Frustrated by this, Mohit goes back to the forest to get a better version of Ritika. But instead, he ends up finding a trans woman whose name is Hansa ( Asmit Pathar). Mohit is not physically attracted to Hansa but feels comfortable sharing whatever he wants with her.

Star performance

Nikhil Desai, did a great job. He played the role of the creature which Ritika and Mohit met with in the forest, playing the character which didn’t  have a pulse, is not everyone’s cup of tea, but Nikhil nailed it.

Asmit Pathar, as Hansa, looks like a perfect choice for his character. He is successful in reflecting the complexities of his character.

Mukul Chadda as Mohit, have done a great job he have very well portrayed the emotion of a frustrated and unsatisfied partner.

Rashika Dugal as Ritika, also played her character beautifully, she portrayed all the emotions on screen in an excellent way.

Analysis

Fairy Folk is an independent film, which throws light on issues faced by most of the couples after a certain period of their marriage, in a very unique and exciting way.

Talking about the direction, Karan Gour is the director of the film and did an excellent job. After Kshay (2012), Fairy Folk is his second independent film. Not only the director but Karan is the writer of the movie as well.

Karan Gour, himself is the editor and the music director of the film, and he shines there as well.

Abhinay Khoparzi, the cinematographer of the film, did a good job.

The star cast of the film has worked hard, and it is reflected in their performances.

What’s not there?

  • Short run time.

Verdict

Fairy Folk, is a movie which reflect light on the issue faced by couples after ages of their marriage, those expectations and desires in a comic way with a completely different storyline. The movie will keep hooked to your seats.
