The movie Sarbjit is a direction by Omung Kumar Omung Kumar Bhandula, better known as Omung Kumar, >> Read More... .  The movie is intended to make tears well up in your eyes as you watch the plight of Sarbjit Singh, who had been caught by Pakistanis after having crossed the borders unwittingly.  One has to go to the theaters and know whether or not the biopic of Sarbjit sticks to standards, and whether or not it projects more than a film could.

Plot

In a drunken state, an Indian farmer Sarabjit Singh crosses the borders to Pakistan where he is mistaken to be an Indian spy. He slowly languishes in the jails of Pakistan. The efforts put in by his wife and sister to save him from the clutches of the Pakistani officials forms the rest of the movie.  If you have happened to know about Sarabjit in real life, the movie’s climax is not suspense in any way.

Star Performance

Randeep Hooda The strong macho image of Randeep Hooda graces the >> Read More... has done the role of Sarabjit Singh in the movie.  His performance is above par, and his dialogue delivery sticks to the standards.  His delivery of emotions is quite realistic, and gives us the feel of Sarajbjit languishing in the jails of Pakistan.  When it comes to emoting, Aishwarya Rai has performed really well.  But, her voice is shrill, however given the nature of her role, it can be forgiven.  Richa Chada has done the role of Sarabjit Singh’s wife in the movie.  Though she does not have much to do in the movie she does what is required of her.    Beyond all these characters, Randeep Hooda is the main asset of the movie.

Analysis

The movie is meant to be a sad story, and there are melodramatic scenes aplenty in the movie.  But, a clichéd story and some overly done performances fail to create the desired impression.  There seems to be much deliberate attempt to bring tears into viewer’s eyes, but in the process, the movie does not look natural.  More efforts could have been put into the emotional aspect of the movie, and time could have been devoted to craft the plot in a plausible manner.

What is there?

  • Randeep Hooda is the main asset of the movie.
  • Aishwarya Rai’s face on the screen seems to have done the trick of making audiences cry.

What is not there?

  • The movie requires a matured mindset.
  • The movie proves to be excessively melodramatic, and a balanced narrative is lacking.
  • There are songs which act as speed-breakers in the movie.

Verdict

The movie could be watched for the performance by Randeep Hooda, and for the expressive face of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a popular Indian actress >> Read More... .
