David Gordon Green was born on April 9, 1975, in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA. His mother is Jean Ann, and his father Hubert Gordon Green is a dean at the medical school. He completed his primary education at Richardson High School.

To study Film Direction, he enrolled in Caroline School of Arts. Soon after his academic aspects, David Gordon Green directly entered the production works. During his study, he made two short films Pleasant Grove, and Physical Pinball. With that experience, he wrote the story and directed George Washington, and it hit the screens in 2000. It is a story of a group of boys who go for a summer vacation and make a tragic mistake. The blunder finally covers up, and this storyline makes the plot. Though the movie came out well, it couldn't get the positive response from the people. Nevertheless, the critics praised the film and the director for giving his best shot in the first film itself. As a director, David Gordon Green got a reasonable recognition and awards.

He won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for the Best First Film, the Best Director Award at Newport International Film Festival. David Gordon Green wrote the movie All The Real Girls and directed it which got a mixed response from the people but got a real criticism from the critics. For a very peculiar romantic plotline, Green's thought got acceptance from the critics. This movie too received four awards including the Best Actress Award at Mar del Plata Film Festival, and ten nominations at different stages.

His next cinema Undertow in 2004 and Snow Angels in 2007 didn't get as much response as his previous films. In 2008, Green came up with a new crime comedy thriller Pine Apple Express. This movie is detective and crime oriented. It got a reasonable response. Franco, who starred in the cinema, received Golden Globe Award for his performance. Not just in the film industry, Green tried his hand in television industry too. He is instrumental in bringing the adult cartoon series Good Vibes in 2011.
