Shawn Ryan was born on October 11th in 1966, in Rockford, Illinois. He is an American screenwriter and television producer. He created T.V. drama series, The Chicago Code, Last Resort, Timeless, and S.W.A.T. He also produced The Unit, Lie to Me, Terriers 2010, and Mad Dogs. Shawn Ryan grew up in Rockford, Illinois. He said he had "a perfect family upbringing" and was interested in 1970 sitcoms as a child. He graduated from Middlebury College, Ryan was given his start in tv. At the same time, he entered and received the Norman Lear Playwriting award sponsored by Columbia Pictures Television (which later became Sony).

The award gave him a $25,000 cash present and meetings with Columbia's top tv producers. Later he turned into a staff creator at the show Nash Bridges and served as a writer/producer on Angel before creating and acting as Head Writer on The Shield. He partnered with David Mamet to serve as showrunner for The Unit. The story centers on a successful L.A. contractor who becomes concerned with his woman clients. The production was put on hold while casting contingencies couldn't be met. He turned into the showrunner for season 2 of Fox's Lie to Me. In 2012, Ryan's pilot Last Resort was picked up by A.B.C.; for the fall. On November 21th in 2012, it was announced that producers had been given good word of the network's plans not to choose the display up for a complete season and they were reworking the very last episode to feature as a chain finale and give the fans closure. The series was much like the Murphy franchise and targeted Foley's son, Aaron, performed by Brandon T. Jackson, a cop running in Beverly Hills as he attempts to get away from his well-known father's shadow. Barry Sonnenfeld directed the pilot. In May 2013, C.B.S. announced it would not choose the show.

Cathy Catlin Ryan, an actress who starred on The Shield and The Chicago Code, got married to Shawn Ryan. They have two children.
