John Van Bruggen (March 6, 1957) is a famous director, writer, and animation writer from Canada. His best creations include “Justin Time (2016), Franklin (1997-2004), Rev & Roll (2019), Ruby Gloom (2007), and Rolie Polie Olie (1998)”. Arna Selznick, the director of 1985's “The Care Bears Movie,” married John Van Bruggen, a Canadian animation writer, and director. In the 1986 sequel, he and Selznick collaborated as the layout supervisors. They work together at “Dancing Monkeys,” a creative services firm.

John is the Executive Story Editor for the upcoming “Brave Bunnies” animated television series (2020-2021). He wrote the screenplay for Arna Selznick's award-winning Nelvana 22-minute CG short “The Most Magnificent Thing” from 2017 to 2018. John and Selznick co-created the jazz-inspired show “YTV's Coolman!” in 2004. He also wrote the screenplay for “Franklin and the Turtle Lake Treasure,” a 2006 feature film. In 2000, the “Gemini Award” nominated him for "Franklin" and the “Two Henrys,” another story from the Franklin trilogy. For "Jacob Two-Two and the Purloined Hockey Card," he received a second nomination in 2004 for Best Writing in a Children's or Youth Program or Series.

In his animation credits, the "van" in his name is sometimes listed as a capital 'V.' Van Bruggen's other accomplishments include “Sunny Patch Friends of Miss Spider (contributing writer)” and “Gerald McBoing-Boing film (contributing writer). He also directed one of the three Beetlejuice syndication television shows. Robin Budd supervised the first season of Beetlejuice (the animated series) A. D. John also directed the first and second seasons of the animated television series “Franklin”. For the same show, he wrote "Back to School." He also directed "Franklin and the Green Knight" and "Franklin's Magic Christmas". "It's Father's Day, Franklin!" was John's contribution to the CGI sequel "Franklin and Friends." He wrote "Franklin and The Turtle Lake Treasure," a 2D feature animation film, in 2006.

John Van Bruggen is a veteran writer and animator. He directed the animated segments of “Dog City.” He has written and produced several Nelvana projects since the 1980s. John has written various series' features and specials, including “Back to School with Franklin” and the upcoming “Franklin and Granny's Secret.” Among his other credits are "Maggie and the Ferocious Beast," "Jacob Two-Two," and "Coolman!." He and his wife, Arna Selznick, co-wrote the book. He also worked on “Beetlejuice: The Animated Series” as a layout supervisor (season 1), assistant director (season 2), and director (seasons 3 and 4).
