Wanphrang is a director, musician and media practitioner in the entertainment industry. He is from Shillong, Meghalaya. Wanphrang also work as a founder of Reddur productions that includes making films and music. A film named “My name is Eeooow,” which co-wrote and edited won the “Best Film Award,” at the Royal Anthropological Film Fest and the Festival Della Lessinia. Another film named “19/87,” which is a type of fiction, won the “Best Film,” “Best Screenplay,” and “Best Cinematography” awards at the Globe International Silent Film Festival 2011 and was in the official selection for the international documentary and short film festival 2011.

Films such as “Where the Clouds End,” and “Because We did not Choose,” has been widely praised in India and abroad at festival and general screenings. Wanphrang also released various music albums such as “Folktales from the parking lot,” and “Foreign Monoliths,” 2015. His film “Lorni- The Flaneur,” which focuses on the character of “Shipiah,” who is an aspiring detective and lives with a Khasi mother and a nontribal father. This film focuses on the history of the Khasi identity and aims to find out the reason behind the disappearance of Khasi community. The Khasi community weee never considering a part of mainland even after the British rule and were mainly used as a resource in terms of ecology, industrialisation and labour.

The people belonging to these community were never adequately understood and faces local system of oppression and conflicts. Through this film, Wanphrang also wants to assert the importance of regional indigenous films over commercial Hindi films, where the revenue model is based on cinema halls operating through the satellite-based digital cinema distribution network following the profit share model, leading to massive gains for halls and losses for the makers of the film after the success of a movie. There is no proper system for calculating trade figures and the halls are controlled by dominated and privileged community that do not favour indigenous films focuses on quality rather than profit.

Wanphrang attempt to break this hegemony by want to screen this film in the independent art spaces in the cities and rural areas with the help of portable equipments. This film was released on 2 September 2022 and received nominations from the Indian film festival of Melbourne.
