Vishnu Prabhakar

Vishnu Prabhakar is an Indian Photographer, Filmmaker, and Cinematographer. He was born in Thiruvananthapuram in the state of Kerala. Vishnu Prabhakar’s mother’s name is Sobha Prabhakaran. The photographer has two sisters named Vinita Gopinathan and Keerthi Venugopal Sreerekha, and two brothers known as Jayadev Vs and Varun Gowri Rams. Vishnu Prabhakar completed his schooling at St. Joseph's higher secondary school. In 2007, he enrolled in Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering at Pappanamcode in Thiruvananthapuram, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Technology with a specialization in Mechanical Production Engineering. After graduating with first-class grades, Vishnu Prabhakar then pursued his Master’s in Computer Integrated Manufacturing at TKM College of Engineering in Kollam.

Vishnu Prabhakar has been interested in photography ever since he got his first camera in 2011. He shot his first short film while he was still pursuing his Master’s Degree. Despite receiving positive reviews for his movie, Vishnu Prabhakar’s family was not convinced and discouraged him from trying to make a career out of photography. A year later, he took up the job of an assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Pinnacle School of Engineering and Technology. While the salary was good, Vishnu Prabhakar found himself slipping into depression. During this time, it was his wife- Ashitha Chandran, who pulled him out of his blues and encouraged him to quit his job and follow his dreams. 

After researching and studying for a while, a friend helped Vishnu Prabhakar to get in touch with the Katha organization in Bangalore. When he was with this organization, Vishnu Prabhakar began to make documentaries on initiatives and their impact on real human lives and society as a whole. From this point on, his career began to take off. Later, Vishnu Prabhakar worked as an Associate Cinematographer on the feature film ‘Vrithakrithiyulla Chathuram’, which was directed by Krishand. This film was also selected for the 24th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in the International competition section. His next project was a web series- ‘Ennum Varunna Dhoomakedhu’, which was also chosen for the Seoul Web-Fest 2020. F filmography beyond this point includes Vivaha Avahanam' (2022), 'Kraya Vikraya Prakriya: People in Transaction' (2022), 'The Arbit Documentation of An Amphibian Hunt: Aavasavyuham' (2022), and 'EVA Malayalam 2020' (2020).
