Sameera Saneesh is a South Indian costume designer and fashion designer who works in the Malayalam film industry. She was born on 27th June 1983. She is well known for designing costumes of
Prithviraj Sukumaran and other stars. Sameera hails from Eroor village of Ernakulam district in Kerala. Her parents are Ibrahim and Jameela. She married a software engineer named Saneesh K. J. on 26th November 2006. She learned drawing and painting from Kalabhavan Kochi during her school years. Sameera did an under graduation course at Bharat Mata College before joining a Fashion Designing diploma at the Nation Institute for Fashion Designing in Panampilly Nagar. After diploma, she worked as an in-house designer for “Raymonds” for some time before becoming a freelance costume designer for ad-films. Her first projects were the advertisements for “Saundarya Silk”. She rose to prominence due to her work in Seemas.
She also designed costumes for television advertisements of brands like “Kalyan Silks”, “Dharti”, “Bhima”, “Nirapara”, and “VKC” among many others. In 2008, Sameera debuted in a Hindi feature film as a costume designer for “The White Elephant” which was directed by Aijaz Khan, an ad film-maker, in Kerala. The movie was nominated for the Indian Panorama category of the ‘Goa International Film Festival’ in 2009. In 2009, Sameera got her big break in the Malayalam film industry in Aashiq Abu’s movie “
Daddy Cool” where she designed costumes for Mammootty. Sameera’s iconic costumes include dapper suits and T-shirts for “Mammootty”, trendy clothes for Jayasurya in Payyan, suave outfits for Prithviraj Sukumaran in Arjunan Sakshi, and flowing gowns and simple kurtis for Mythli and
Shweta Menon in Salt N’ Pepper which became a college trend. Her favourite star to work with is Mammootty for whom she made costumes with soft fabric.
Her other popular works include ‘Katha Thurundu, Aagathan’, ‘In Ghost House Inn’,’ Best Actor’, ‘Maarvadi Arts Club’ and many more. Her latest works include ‘CIA: Comrade In America’, ‘Alamaraa’, ‘
Puthan Panam’, ‘LavaKusha’ and many others in 2017. In 2010, Sameera received the Mathrubhumi Film Award under the Best Costume Design category for the film ‘Pranchiyettan AndThe Saint’. In 2014, Sameera received the Kerala Film State Award for Best Costume Designer category. In 2015, she also featured in the Limca Book of Records for creating costumes for the highest number of Malayalam films in a short amount of time; to be more precise she designed costumes for fifty-two movies in five years starting with ‘Daddy Cool’ in August 2009 till ‘
