Kutty was a veteran figure in the Malayalam film industry. He has acted and penned script for several films. He was a writer and a character actor. He has over 100 films with credits as an actor. His debut was as a side character named Philip in Christmas Ratri (1961). He has acted alongside the who’s who of the industry. He last acted in the Mammootty starrer Ithile Iniyum Varu (1986). Over the years, he was part of films like Yakshi, which was touted to be the first psychological Malayalam film. He had also written and acted in Ernakulam Junction (1971).

One of his breakthrough performances was in Postmane Kananilla (1972) where he played the negative role of Vallabha. Not only as an actor, but Kutty was also known for his writing. Initially, he used to write various plays. At a point in his life, he has also worked in a drama troop, and that’s where he chiseled his acting skills. But that didn’t mean he left the job of writing. Kutty then started to write a story, screenplay and dialogue for various films. Some, like the script in Padayottam (1982) were appreciated.
