Sri Vijayan Karottu, born in Tower (Mannumpetta) of Mannape, Varantharapalli, Thrissur district, is a story writer, director, and producer of Malayalam films. In the role of a writer, he worked as the managing director of Thrissur Current Books. Vijayan Karottu is known among Malayalis for his short stories and journalism. He became friends with Bey. He left his job at Current Books in the late 1970s to come to Madras to help Ramu Karyat write the script for the film Dweep.

After the movie Dweep, he decided to work in the cinema industry and worked by preparing the scripts of some movies. His charming personality won him many friends in the film industry. Friends like Kunhikannan and U.P. Karunan founded a production company called NN Films in partnership with Ramachandran and Sanalkumar. Sri Bharatan's Marmaram, released in 1982, was the group's first-ever production in the film industry. The story, including the dialogues for the film, was written by none other than Vijayan Karote.

Marmara won the National Award for the best film of the year. The film won several awards, including the Vijay National Award for Best Story, but the film did not do well at the box office. Thus, the production company NN Films had to close down. Even though the production company failed, Vijayan did not give up his desire to make films and took up the director’s hat instead and directed the movie Ashamsakote. Even though the film was a massive failure, he did not lose courage and turned Joseph Vityla's novel Ashrama into a movie called Chemmeenkett.

He then directed his next film with the same name based on UA Khader's novel Chantayil Chuthivilkunna Pennu with high expectations, but it did not get traction. He later directed films like Ashokante Aswathikuttiku and Brahmarakshas, but none of the movies gained the audience he had imagined. As time passed, Thambi appeared in Kannanthanam's Indrajalam. Among them, the role of the villain played by Vijayan is one of the most famous spectacle in the film industry. His major published works are Armourer, Cases, and Atakram. Even in his last years, he wrote many stories, scripts, and dialogues for many films and directed many films.
