Nakul is an Indian film actor and playback singer. He is a known personality in the Tamil film industry. He was born as Nakul Jaidev to Lakshmi and Jayadev on June 15, 1984, in Mumbai, India. He is the brother of Devayani, a teacher, and former actress. Nakul was debuted in the 2003 Tamil coming-of-age film, Boys, alongside Siddharth, Bharath, Manikandan, Genelia, and Sai Srinivas Thaman, who are all newcomers in that movie. Nakul’s family sent some pictures of Mayur (his brother) to the office of Shankar, who helmed his debut film.
However, when they saw Nakul in one of the pictures, the director approached him to play the lead role in Boys. Out of all the actors who appeared in the film, only Nakul failed to create a niche as an actor. His next film, Keelu Gurram, where he played a supporting role, also failed at the box office. It was really a struggle for him to get a breakthrough, so he shifted his career from actor to a playback singer. He recorded for the film composer,
Harris Jayaraj, in his albums for films like Anniyan (2005), Gajini (2005), and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu (2006).
Anniyan marks his debut as a playback singer. In 2008, he starred in his first feature film,
Kadhalil Vizhunthen, opposite Sunaina. When they started filming in 2006, Nakul lost almost 20-kilograms to make his character more convincing. It was later revealed that the film was a trial-and-error basis and the production was not in a hurry to wrap up the film. That’s why it took them two years to complete it, but it was all worth it as the film earned unexpected publicity due to Vijay Anthony’s song entitled Nakka Mukka.
It was Sun Pictures’ first film distribution. It also earned commercial success, and many critics praised Nakul’s performance in the film. Due to its success, Sun Pictures distributed his next film, Maasilamani, in 2009. He has paired with Sunaina once again, and the film turned out to be a box office success. In the same year, he starred in the S. Sakthivel’s Kandhakottai, opposite Poorna in the lead roles. Nakul had no film releases in the next four years, though he continued to work on different ventures simultaneously.
In 2013, he played the lead role in the Tamil action film, Naan Rajavaga Pogiren, but this time, he failed to impress the critics. The following year, he played as Krishna, a basketball player, in the sports drama film, Vallinam, alongside Mrudhula Basker, who was debuted in this film. It opened to positive reviews from both the audience and critics. In 2015, Nakul performed in the drama thriller film, Tamizhuku En Ondrai Azhuthavum, which earned positive reviews and became a blockbuster.
This 2016, he was seen in Vetrivel Film International’s Narathan, which opened to negative reviews. In 2011, he started filming K.S. Adhiyaman’s Amali Thumali alongside Shanthanu in the lead roles. It was said that the film would be completed in 2014. Nakul got married to Shruthi Baskar on February 28, 2016.
