Murugan Palaniappan, known as Murugan Pal, was born in 1966. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Thiagarajar College of Engineering, A master in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University, A master’s in computer science from Arizona State University, and a Doctoral Candidate in Industrial Engineering at Arizona State University. Murugan Pal was a serial entrepreneur based in Silicon Valley, Bay Area, USA. Murugan Pal was the president and co-founder of CK-Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 2006. Before founding the CK-12 Foundation, Murugan was an EIR with the CTO of Spike Source.
Before founding Spike Source, Pal was an entrepreneur-in-residence with venture capital firm Kleiner, Perkins, Byers & Caufield (KPBC). Previously, he was a founding engineer of e-business software company Asera, Inc. Pal worked on real-time enterprise technologies, composite applications, relational databases, object databases, service-oriental architecture runtimes, and robotics and manufacturing automation. In 2010, Pal was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He died on 30 October 2012.
