S.P. Velumani was born on 10 May 1969 to E. A. Palanisamy and Mayilathal. He completed his education (MPhil) from Annamalai University, Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu and he is married to Vidhya Devi Velumani. He is a leaderAIADMK party, which is currently the third largest party in the Indian Parliament. Velumani has also been the District Secretary of Coimbatore Rural District of the party.
He has been the Member of Legislative of Tamil Nadu continuously for three times. He won first in the year 2006 from the Perur Constituency. Later on, the constituency was removed in 2007 and parts of it were added to Thondamuthur. Velumani further went on to win consecutive elections from Thondamuthur constituency in the year 2011 and then 2016.
Velumani has been highly popular in that area. It can be ascertained from the fact that in the 2016 elections even though the voting percentage in Thondamuthur was 63.4%, he had won by a margin of more than 64,000 votes. It was also the third highest victory margin of the elections. Velumani from the beginning of his political career has been sincere with his efforts.
He has also been people’s favorite choice as his consistent victory portrays. Another trait that appears affluent in him is his persistence in taking initiatives. He believed that the focus area of the Government must be to provide skills to the youths of the country.
He organized the skill development training program to about 71,000 youth. Furthermore, he took initiatives to introduce bio-mining of sludge in urban centers and retrieve the land for possible use to solve the problem of land being turned into dumping yards. He has stressed the importance of “Smart City Mission” across the State and he believes that it shall be in the larger benefit of not just the state but the country as a whole.
The “Race Course Road development project” under Velumani was a part of the mission. He believed that it would immensely benefit the public. Velumaniis also the Cabinet Minister for Rural Development, Municipal Administration, Panchayats and Panchayat Unions, Corporations, Rural Indebtedness, Poverty Alleviation Programmes, Implementation of Special Programme and Urban and Rural Water Supply (TWAD).
