Rajani is a popular South Indian Actress who was born on 27 July 1965. She has acted in various Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam movies. Her original name is Shashi Kaur Malhotra. She was born in Bangalore to a Punjabi father, Mr.V.N.Malhotra and a Kannadiga mother, Sulochana. She was given the name ‘Rajani’ from the very famous Telugu Director Mr. who according to her is her guru. She is also known as ‘’ in the Tamil film Industry. She was one of the most beautiful heroines of her time.

She entered the Tamil movie industry with her debut, ‘Ilamai Kalangal’ in 1983. She was spotted near her residence in Chennai and given an opportunity to play the heroine in this movie directed by Late Manivannan who was a director as well as an actor. This movie also starred actor Kokila Mohan in a lead role and another heroine Rohini. This movie was very successful and changed Rajani’s status to that of a Star. In 1985, she made an entry in to Telugu movies with ‘Brahma mudi’ followed by a few others in the same year such as Idena nyayam, Rendu Rella Aaru, Idena Nyayam, Lanchavataram, Adapadachu, Pelli nikku akshanthalu naaku and Bhaarya Bharthala Bandham. She went on to appear in a few other movies till the early 90’s and has acted in more than 150 films. She has the honour of working with most of the famous South Indian actors namely Dr.Vishnuvardhan, Ambareesh, , , Mammooty, etc.

In the year 1998, she married a NRI by name Dr. Mullagiri Praveen and settled in USA. The couple have 3 children, 2 sons and a daughter. However, Rajani filed for divorce after almost 10 years of her married life citing extreme physical and mental harassment from her husband and his family. Later she also filed a case against her husband stating that he had transferred one of her properties (i.e, Apartment) name in his mother’s name and was filing wrong cases on her. The court gave orders not to book any case on the actress till further notice.
