Sohum Shah To Collaborate With Pen Studios For Tumbbad 2

Hastar is all set to haunt the audience again!

In a grand collaboration, Sohum Shah, one of the main forces behind Tumbbad, has decided to collaborate with Pen Studios for Tumbbad 2. Unlike the previous edition, Rahi Anil Barve won’t be a part of this project as the director.

Based on a Marathi story by Narayan Dharap, Tumbbad was jointly directed by Anand Gandhi and Rahi Anil Barve, while Sohum Shah served as one of the co-producers and the lead actor of this movie, Vinayak Rao. Going by the effects and the content of this movie, nobody could believe that this film was made on a mere budget of 5 crores. Yet, despite the critical appreciation, Tumbbad got sandwiched between Ayushmann Khurrana’s Andhadhun and Badhaai Ho, barely managing to recover its costs.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The film got unprecedented coverage during the pandemic, so much so that when it re-released last year, it earned seven times its budget. With a total of 38 crores from the re-release collections, Tumbbad became one of the highest grossing Indian movies in terms of re-release, before Harshvardhan Rane’s Sanam Teri Kasam took over.
