As the mystery thriller ‘Jai Ganesh’ is up for release Unni revealed why he opted for the role of producer, and how it has helped him to look for better options. He also finally addressed the concerns that emerged after he did films like ‘Meppaddiyan’ and ‘Mallikappuram’. Despite the creative brilliance of the film, he was labeled as ‘communal’ by a section of critics and was subject to unfair criticism.

Unni maintained that while he wouldn’t be bogged down by such criticism, he was a bit saddened by the bizarre allegations. He wondered what had he done to deserve it. He even maintained that it has not been an easy journey for him as an outsider, but he is not ready to give up. Unni Mukundan also said that he will be open to work in Bollywood if he gets meaningful projects, and not the mediocre ‘sex comedies’ that he was initially offered.
