For the past three years, the post of the Cauvery Tribunal Chief had been vacant. Now, the Supreme Court justice AM Sapre has been appointed as the Chief of Cauvery Tribunal. The Ministry of Water Resources released the notification order regarding Sapre’s appointment. The Cauvery dispute had been going on between Karnataka and Tamilnadu for years. While the Tamilnadu government has been claiming its share of water from Cauvery, Karnataka has been planning to build four more dams across Cauvery and stubbornly says that it wouldn’t let Tamilnadu’s share. The Karnataka government recently announced that it would supply the excess water, after filling all the dams. If this continues, Tamilnadu will become a desert, says the farmers and the social activists.
