Plot

Emperor Renzong belongs to the Song dynasty. During his period, a group of people was searching for Black Powder. They were captured by Khitan bandits, who were well known for killing the people. When the people escaped from the bandits and stayed in a cave, a monster killed them. Tovar and William fled from the monster. When they were in the Great Wall to continue their mission, they were arrested by the soldiers.  However, they were set free during a battle. They meet a European, who was also venturing for the black powder, before 25 years. What is Black Powder? Did William and Tovar get it? Watch the film to get the answers.

Star Performances

Performances by Matt Damon and Pedro Pascal are extremely good. Other than these two people, the VFX effects have boosted up the performance of the film. A pat to the VFX team!

Analysis

Zhang Yimou’s script is certainly not a new one. However, he has tried out his best to make it big.

What’s There?

  • Excellent CG and VFX works
  • Performances of Matt and Pedro

What’s Not There?

  • Performing casts are limited
  • Predictable scenes make the viewers feel bored

Verdict

Being a monster movie, it loses its importance by its intention in executing. However, the film is worth for one-time watch.
