Films based on real life shocking incidents have become common in Bollywood, with hardly any pretence of hiding the identities of the real-life characters and events they relate to. “ Dehraadun Diary Click to look into! >> Read More... ” is one such movie based on a real-life, high-profile murder. Coincidentally, the heroine of the film, graduating into movies from TV, also hails from Dehradun.

Plot: In this filmy adaptation, Ragini (portrayed by newcomer Ragini Nandwani Ragini Nandwani is an Indian TV and movies actress >> Read More... ), the college going daughter of the powerfully connected Thakur family falls in love with Anshul Sharma Anushal Sharma is an Indian actor, assistant direc >> Read More... ( Rohit Bakshi Rohit Bakshi is an Indian Television actor who is >> Read More... ), belonging to a good family, but not possessing the political clout of the Thakurs. As generally happens in such cases, the Thakurs look down on any such alliances, and Vishesh, the quarrelsome brother of Ragini (enacted by Vishal Bhosle), gets Anshul clandestinely murdered after getting enraged at spotting the two lovers together at a wedding. The incident triggers off a series of vigorous protests and ‘fights for justice’, spearhead by the victim’s brother Akash, portrayed by Adhyan Suman, who is depicted as a fearless crusader willing to give up his career to bring the culprits to book.

Review: The plot proceeds with the depiction of the travails he has to face in his fight for justice over a long period of 8 years, with witnesses turning hostile and the naked use of political clout of the Thakurs, hampering the deliverance of justice. At this point of time, the director starts losing fresh ideas and one is left with repetitive scenes almost in a nauseating regularity. The courtroom battles could have been handled in a smooth manner, as the plot had the potential to generate a riveting courtroom drama, which seems to have been missed out sadly. Even the induction of a passionate lady advocate fails to bring in some drama into the legal battle played out in the courtroom.

Star Performances: As regards the acting talents of the main actors, the less said the batter. Being the son of veteran Sekhar Suman, one would have naturally expected some traits of acting potential in this relative newcomer Adhyan. Sadly, however, he can hardly do justice to a role which had all the potential to be portrayed in a much more convincing manner. Instead of being a forceful character fighting for his rights, he seems to give an impression of total disinterest.

On the other hand, Ragini Nandwani proves again that acting in TV serials does not automatically qualify one for lead roles on the big screen. Some consolation is provided by the acting of veteran Rati Agnihotri Rati Agnihotri is an Indian movie actress who has >> Read More... as the mother of the murder victim, and the negative role portrayed by Vishal Bhosle as the firebrand Thakur sibling.

Technical Aspects: On the production side, there is nothing remarkable to lift the film on an overall basis, and one of the main reasons why the film does not take off in spite of having a volatile subject matter is the weak script and screenplay. With such handicaps and no fresh creative ideas from his own side, director Milind Ukey Milind Ukey is a director, producer and writer who >> Read More... fails to come up with a film that can be remembered for anything else but an attempt to picturise a sensational high-profile murder case.

Verdict: Those who may be tempted to brush up their memories of the Nitish Katara case may try viewing the film, but for others not interested in it, the film holds nothing of worth to entice them to watch the film.
