Plot

The plot revolves around the life of Kathir (played by RJ Balaji). Kathir is from a small town, where he grew up inspired by the local hair salon, which became his passion. Growing up, he wishes to pursue his passion, but understands the necessity of a formal education. So, he goes on to complete his engineering degree, where he meets his wife. Later, with the help of his father and in-laws, he builds up his own Singapore Saloon, only to be faced with tragedy just before the inauguration of the salon. The plot unveils as to what the tragedy was and whether he overcame the situation and emerged victorious.

Star Performance

While RJ Balaji did portray his role as a hairdresser well enough, there was a considerable lack of character development. The role of Sathyaraj deserves much applause. He carried on the humor in the film with his dialogue delivery and mannerisms. The cameos of Arvind Swamy, Jiiva, and Lokesh Kanakaraj lightened the movie and added color. Meenakshi’s role was underdeveloped, and it too was lacking character. However, her acting was good. The supporting characters also played their role well.

Analysis

The movie is another addition to the list of underdog movies. The idea of portraying hairdressing as a noble profession was good, and kudos to Gokul for that. However, there was a lack of completion in the script with respect to the story as well as the character development of the lead, which was a disadvantage to the movie.  While the first half is focused on humor, the second half quickly escalated deep into the story. This escalation into seriousness was not easy to grasp. However, the movie was able to portray the realism of caste, class, and economic inequalities. It also is an eye opener into society’s views on the kind of job that deserves praise. The movie also has a great background score and music.

What’s There?

  • The movie has several hearty and humorous scenes.
  • The film has elements of realism.

What’s Not There?

  • There is not much gradual connection between the first half and second half of the film.
  • The characters and storyline are underdeveloped.

Verdict

The movie is fit for a light and hearty watch. The humor is the winning point of the movie. The cameos are like icing on the cake. The film is not a must-watch but has some rewatch quality.
