Sabu Sivan

Sabu Sivan is a successful, innovative designer for television and stages. He was born in Kerala, India. Since 2006, Sabu, the city-based set creator, has projected Kerala to the world with his aesthetically crafted stalls for tourism fêtes. A considerable success came back when Sabu’s craftsmanship for Kerala Tourism’s eco-friendly stall, designed around the Chinese fishing nets of Mattancherry and won the prize for the ‘best international stand’ at the celebrated International Tourism Trade Fair (Fitur) in Madrid, Spain, beating competition from 10, 433 other stalls from 166 countries/regions.

He graduated from the College of Fine Art, Kerala. When he gets free time, he loves to tour his favorite museum, Louvre and Van Gogh (a dutch post-impressionist painter) in Spain. However, his experiences on the globe stage are mainly reflected in the world-class, trendsetting sets that he creates for popular television shows across Malayalam channels. His first work (as an art assistant) was for Aksharasandhya, a project for the Literacy Mission back within the late 80s. His latest buzz-generator, for its hi-tech concept, design, and use of innovative materials, is the ‘360 degree’ perspective set he created for Amrita TV’s new reality show Superstar – the last word.

He started in the field in the late 80s/early 90s when cable TV was introduced. He worked hard for set designing to get a memorable visual impact. And after that, he learned how to work the camera, lighting techniques, carpentry, editing, and sound composing. He prefers working on television because he looks for creative satisfaction rather than exposure.
