Madhu Eravankara was born on 20th May 1954 in Alappuzha district, Kerala, India. He's an Indian cinema critic and author who has received international acclaim. He was also appointed for several State, National, and International Documentary and Film Writing Awards. He was the Media Director of Eritrea's Audiovisual Institute and faculty member and Head of the Department of Film Studies at Kerala's Thunchatezhuthachan South Dravidian University. He's the recipient of the coveted Indian National Film Award and the President's Gold Medal for the most effective Book on Film. He's the author of a dozen books on cinema. In 1999, his work 'Malayala Cinemayum Sahityavum' (Malayalam Film and Literature) received the National Film Award with the President's Gold Medal.

In 2003, his documentary "Nishadam" won the Kerala State Film Award. For his book 'INDIAN CINEMA- 100 VARSHAM 100 CINEMA', he received Kozhikkodan Award in 2016 and the MAMI Excellence Award. He has served on the juries of many well-known film festivals, as well as the International Film Festivals of Bombay, Yamagata, Japan, Brisbane, Australia, Istanbul, Turkey, Toronto, Canada, Mannheim, Heidelberg, Germany, Busan, Abu Dhabi, UAE, Taipei, Taiwan, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru (2018). He's a Panel Director of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) and the Kerala Government's promotional material Department, yet as a director member of the Kerala State encyclopedic Institute (2006-2011).

He is the faculty member and Head of the Department of Film Studies at Thunchathezhuthachan Malayalam University in Tirur, Kerala. He was a Kerala International Film Festival's organizing committee (IFFK) member. He directed the film Nankooram and over a dozen documentaries together with Nishadam (IFFK-2004, CFF-2004, DFF-2004, and BIFF-2005), Victims of Silence (Eritrea), Punarakhyanam, Punarjjani, Kerala Panini, Razia, Kettukazcha, Kuthiyottam, Chettikulangara Amma. He made a documentary known as Pakalmazha (Day Rain). His documentary, Magic Wheel, has been a part of a program at the Indian college in Bahrain.
