Bhadran Matel is a Malayalam Filmmaker and writer. He was born, on November 22, 1952, in Palai, Kerala, India. He has written on various themes that describe redemption and psychological trauma, ill-mannered parenting, childhood distresses, autocratic Christian Culture, and objectification of Fatherhood, in distinct regions of Kerala. He is one of the most famous filmmakers who introduced thug life to the Malayalam industry. He is officially trained in music, and was always wanted to become a film director. He has worked as the eighth assistant director of Hariharan, under the banner of Supriya production. Later, he assisted him in 14 films, and progressed from being an apprentice to the associate director.

He debuted as an official director or filmmaker with the film Ente Mohangal Poovaninju in 1982. Later on, he directed many films in his 40 years of career, namely Changatham in 1983, Aattuvanchi Ulanjappol in 1984, Poomukhappadiyil Ninneyum Kaathu in 1986, Idanazhiyil Oru Kaalocha in 1987, Iyer The Great in 1990, Uncle Bun in 1991, Spadikam in 1995, Yuvathurki in 1996, Olympiyan Anthony Adam in 1999, Vellithira in 2003, Udayon in 2005, Joothan and Untitled Mohanlal Road Movie in 2021, and Spadikam 4K Atmos in 2022. His films were always inspired by the lives of ordinary people and unified with creative surrealism. He has won three Filmfare Awards for Best Director – Malayalam, Poomukhappadiyil Ninneyum Kaathu, Iyer The Great, and Spadikam.
