John Paul also known as Puthusery was born and 29th October 1950. He began his career as a freelance journalist and in film society. He also wrote stories for several short plays as well as advertisements. He served in Canara Bank from 1972 for almost ten years. Later, he quit his job and concentrated entirely on movies. His famous screenshows include Ilakkangal, Rachana, Palangal, Arorumariyathe, Ormakkayi, Sandhya Mayangum Neram, Chamaram, Kattathe Kilikkoodu, Avidathe Pole Ivideyum, Utsavapittennu, and Kathodu Kathora. He achieved laurels for his working in the cinema industry. The famous among them was the best screenplay writer, awarded by Kerala film critics association award known as Nana Gallop Poll. Apart from direction Paul has also written several books. Amongst which he received the State award for the best film book for the M.T Oru AnuYatra. He also served as a producer for some of the movies. One of the movies which he produced, Oru Cherupunchiri received state, national, and international awards by M.T. Vasudevan Nair. John contributed for MACTA, an association for film technicians as the founder General Secretary.

He also faced ups and down in his career. He believed in making good relationship with everyone as he always gave importance to friendship. He never had an idea that he ever joined the cinema.
