won the award for the Best Actor for his work in Rustom. Malayalam Actress Surabhi Lakshmi was given the award for the best actress for her performance in Minnaminungu. The special jury award for Mohanlal arrived as a surprise to everybody. Talking to the press whilst announcing the winner, Priyadarshan, the jury chairman explained why Mohanlal was presented the award.
He also further said that only Malayalam movies from South Indian movie field proved to be a tight competition to the Bengali and Marathi movies. Also, Priyadarshan added that Mohanlal happened to be one among the last three names for the performance in Pulimurugan,
