It may sound ironic that the original “ Himmatwala Click to look into! >> Read More... ” of 1983, which itself was a remake of a Telegu film, had to be transformed into another Hindi version almost thirty years later by Sajid Khan Sajid Khan is a Bollywood director, producer and e >> Read More... . What prompted Sajid to pick up this movie is not very clear, but after watching the film one may be wishing that it would have been better if he had chosen another genre, maybe comedy with which Sajid is more associated.

Plot: Ajay Devgan Ajay Devgn is an Indian film actor. It was Narayan’s daughter Rekha’s turn now to face the ire of Ravi.

The role of Rekha, ostensibly the principal female actress, has been given to Tamannaah Bhatia Tamannaah Bhatia is a well known actress in Tamil >> Read More... , an import from the Southern film industry, who is besides looking good seems to have contributed precious little to the film’s proceedings. In fact, she has to use the help of a tiger to tackle Ravi but puts her own life in danger when she finds herself face to face with the tiger. With her rescue coming at the hands of Ravi, a love affair ensues between the two from opposing families. Simultaneously another affair emerges between Narayan Das’s son Shakti (played by veteran Sekhar Suman’s son Adhyayan) and Ravi’s sister Padma, played by the hapless looking Leena Jumani Leena Jumani is a model and an actress on Indian T >> Read More... , graduating from the small screen for her first movie role. After that, the plot meanders through the usual ups and downs but ends with the triumph of the lovers and the seeking of forgiveness by the evil doers. While Ajay Devgan does what he can do best for a role like this, project himself as the ruthless protagonist and perhaps scores a comparative point over in this area, but where he lags behind his corresponding previous performer is obviously in the dance scenes.

Tammannah does not even attempt a Sridevi repeat and is content with just looking good. Perhaps it is Paresh Rawal who would catch the attention of the audience in this film for his comically villainous dialogues. Not much can be added about the rest of the cast as they either have been provided severely curtailed roles or have appeared just inconsequential, failing to inject life into their roles. While music is one of the plus points of the film, by borrowing the hit numbers of the original version, all this still cannot revive the sagging feeling one gets watching the movie. Sajid Khan may very well do introspection on what went wrong. He may perhaps more appropriately realize that there were safer and better subjects for a remake.

Verdict: While comparisons with the vintage “Himmatwala” are bound to appear, but even for the normal moviegoer who goes to watch this as a freshly made movie on an unrepeated plot, it may not hold much appeal either.
