Her sister, Ashla suggested her name to film producer and director, Dev Anand and cast her in the 1974 Hindi film, Ishq Ishq Ishq. From there, she started to appear in various films like Dreamgirl, Zindagi, and Saajan Bina Suhagan. Padmini also gave her best performance as a school girl imposed by a black magic in the Indian horror film, Gehrayee by Vikas Desai and Aruna Raje in 1980.
One of her popular role as a child actress was from the 1978 Bollywood film, Satyam Shivam Sundaram under the direction of Raj Kapoor. The success that she got from Satyam led her to her most provocative role as a rape victim in the Hindi film, Insaaf Ka Tarazu by B.R. Chopra in 1980; where she earned the Best Supporting Actress at the Filmfare Award. This film is a remake of the 1976 drama film, Lipstick. Her last heroine role was from Nahir Hussain’s Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai in 1981, opposite Rishi Kapoor. However, the film did not make it to the box office, but Padmini and Rishi worked together again on Raj Kapoor’s Prem Rog in 1982. She won the Best Actress Award at the Filmfare for her portrayal as Manorama ‘Rama’. She played as Chandra in the Bollywood film, Ahista Ahista, where she earned a special acting award.
Padmini also acted in the 1985 Bollywood film, Do Dilon Ki Dastaan with Sanjay Dutt. Some of her box-office hit films includes Vidhaata in 1982 and the feature film, Souten in 1983. She also made a big hit in the 198 Hindi film, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, which stars Mithun Chakraborty. The two was paired together several times in different films. Her first starrer film, Woh Saat Din with Anil Kapoor was also a hit and gained her popularity in the Indian film industry.
She got married to Pradeep Sharma, a popular Indian producer after she was cast in the film, Aisa Pyar Kahan. They have a child named, Priyank. Padmini took a short hiatus after she gave birth and returned in year 2004. She has done two Marathi films , Chimnee Pakhra and Manthan that turns out to be a huge hit and gained her Screen Award for Best Marathi Actress. In 2006, the actress played as Radha S. Rai in the Horror film, Eight – The Power of Shani by Karan Razdan. Kunal, who is nicknamed as Kunnu, hails from Mumbai, India.
