Aswathy Kurup

Aswathy Kurup is a singer who became famous through the musical show ‘Idea Star Singer’ and was brought up and studied in Sharjah, Dubai. She has been learning Carnatic music since childhood, and it became her passion when she was ten years old. During her time in Dubai, she participated in all the music competitions and fests and was quite a famous singer. Though the musical network in Dubai for budding singers is minor, she managed to create her platform through singing in weddings, functions, and other stage shows. After coming back to her hometown Palakkad, Kerala, she continued to pursue her passion. That’s how she participated in the music show ‘Idea Star Singer’ aired on Asianet Channel, and this show has opened a new door for a musical career. She got opportunities to sing with famous singers like K.S. Chithra and M Jayachandran. 

She has never revealed to anyone that she is the granddaughter of the famous singer, M.S. Viswanathan, as she feels blessed to be his granddaughter. Though she has this strong relationship, she has never used his name to find a chance anywhere, but one of the saddest parts of her life is that she never got an opportunity to learn music from her grandfather. As she was in Dubai and her grandfather in Chennai, they discussed music through phone calls, which was never enough.

She is from a family with a musical background and has always been encouraged and supported in her decisions. She also has a music band named ‘Rudra Malang,’ which means divine addiction; she says music is the only addictive thing in the world. No matter how stressed or tense we are, music always comes to the rescue, and she advises youngsters that a singer remains a singer even if they don’t sing in movies. Even if they don’t get a chance to sing in films, they should continue to pursue music as even she got her first opportunity to sing in movies after sixteen years. Movies are not the only path for singers; there are so many, and she also works as an operational manager in an event management company.
