Flavia Agnes

Flavia Agnes is a woman who fights for the rights of women. She is an Indian Women's rights lawyer with expertise in marital, divorce, and property law. She lives and works in Mumbai. She became a lawyer at the High Court of Mumbai in 1988, and she has chaired the legal and cultural Centre for the barricade of women's rights, Majlis. She grew up in the village of Kadri, in Mangalore, living with her aunt. Her family lives in Aden, and she moved there. In Aden, she worked as a Typist. When her father died, she went back to Mangalore.

When she was 20 years old, she married a 12-year older man who disrespected and abused her. After 14 years of her marriage, she finally split her husband and gained their children's custody. She wrote a book, 'Our story of Rebuilding broken lives,' published in 1984. She completed an LLB in 1988 and began to practice law at Mumbai High court. Later, she completed her LLM from Mumbai university in 1992. She has written numerous articles, from some published in journals, including Subaltern Studies, Economic and Political Weekly, and Manushi as she is a lawyer for women's rights. She writes articles on issues of domestic violence, feminist jurisprudence, and minority rights.

Flavia Agnes is also a part of the Global Feminism Project, formed in 2002, where they examine women scholars and activists worldwide. China, India, Poland, and the United States are the countries on which they focused. It was headed by the University of Michigan's Abigail Stewart, Jayati Lal, and Kristin McGuire. The project currently dwells of seven countries and 79 interviews. The interview's main focus is on women's experiences and their feminist activism.
